Check Out Their Work
This might seem way too obvious, but don’t look at just one photo shoot from one wedding – look at as many as they have! They could have had a off day, or worse, they could have had just one good day and the rest are bad. Looking through their portfolio is like looking at a list of their references – be thorough and critical.
Research Their Background
Did they go to school for photography? Or are they self-taught? Keep in mind that schooling doesn’t necessarily mean they are better – some of the most talented people I know taught themselves through the years. But what you really want to know is how consistent they are and if they will be like that on your day.
Rights To Photos
Is your Napa wedding photographer going to keep the rights to your photos, or give them to you? This could be important depending on what you want to do with them. Also, are they going to print them for you or give you a digital copy. All very important questions.
Shooting Hours
Most photographers have a set time of how long they shoot for. You will need to decide if that will work for you. You might be a partier and want to stay up as long as possible (when the good shots will come out), but your guy is leaving at 10pm.

Keep in mind what you are looking for when you choose a package. It’s okay to see if they will change things around, because they might be flexible. Always ask questions! Do not feel like you are annoying them – remember, they are working for you!
